The Well-Tempered Clavier

Few pieces of music have given me as much pleasure over the years as Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier. There is a wonderful website devoted mainly to the 48 fugues. As well as hearing performances of each piece, you can follow an animated on-screen musical score and, if you are really keen, read an essay about it. The first time you visit this site, you will be asked to download a program called Macromedia Shockwave. This is highly recommended if you have broadband. I hope you enjoy the multi-media The Well-Tempered Clavier. A particular favourite is the Fugue No. 16 in G minor from Book II.

NOTE: The first time you click on the above "Well-Tempered Clavier" link, you may be asked to download a "plug-in" - Adobe Shockwave Player. Just follow the instructions. If using the Safari browser, you will also need to run the browser in 32 bit mode.
